The ear canal
We look along the ear canal under magnification.
For wax build-up, and for anything else that might need further attention.
We look first, under magnification.
If wax needs removing, we remove it in the same appointment.
If it doesn't, we leave it alone.

You'll know which applies once we've looked. We'll always tell you before we begin.
We tend to think about our ears when something feels wrong.
An ear feels blocked. Hearing seems different. Hearing technology isn't performing quite as it usually does.
But looking after the health of your ears doesn't need to begin with a problem.
Earwax helps protect and lubricate the ear canal. In most cases, your ears manage it perfectly well on their own.
So good ear care isn't about routinely removing wax. It's about knowing when everything is healthy, and recognising when something needs attention.

We examine your eardrums.
The thin membrane at the end of the canal, where sound begins its way inwards.
We assess how your middle ear is working.
Not only how it looks, but how well it is functioning.
Where wax is removed, we finish by conditioning the skin of the outer ear with Dr. Hauschka botanical skincare.
Looking after your ears includes looking after the skin around them, too.
Where wax has built up and removal is appropriate, we use microsuction.
Magnification allows us to see the ear canal throughout, and to remove the wax carefully.
We remove only what needs removing.
And because ear care shouldn't end with wax removal, we finish with a botanical balm for the skin of the outer ear.
Living Out Loud is our ongoing conversation series, featuring patients and guests sharing their personal experiences of hearing - and being heard.
I always describe being deaf as hearing with my eyes.

It was very much focused on the whole person rather than just the fact that I had hearing loss.

When hearing technology suddenly sounds different, the first thought is often the device.
Perhaps it needs adjusting. Perhaps it needs replacing.
But wax that has built up can affect how sound reaches the ear, and how the technology performs.
So one of the first things worth checking is the ear itself.
Most of us see a dentist without waiting for toothache.
Ears deserve the same quiet attention.
If you know you're prone to wax build-up, wear hearing technology, or simply haven't had your ears checked for some time, an Ear Health Check is a simple place to begin.

The Well Being BY CUBEX has been in the Shulberg family for over sixty years, at the same Marylebone address. An independent audiology clinic, looking after ears and hearing for generations of the same families.
The aim isn't to create a wax-free ear. It's to maintain a healthy one.
